About This Course

IELTS Preparation at ICSA

IELTS is the English test most widely accepted by universities, employers and immigration authorities across the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and much of Europe. It is marked by trained human examiners and reported on a 9-band scale, and it is taken in two versions: Academic, for university admission and professional registration, and General Training, for migration and work.

The difficulty is rarely the English itself. Most students who fall short of their target band do so because they do not know what the examiner is rewarding β€” how a Task 2 essay is actually marked, why a fluent answer can still score low in Speaking, or how to finish Reading without running out of time. This course closes that gap.

Over one to two months you work through every question type in all four papers, then sit full timed mock tests under real exam conditions and receive band-referenced feedback showing exactly where your marks are being lost and how to recover them.

What You'll Learn

Skills You'll Walk Away With

IELTS Listening β€” all four sections and every question type, including map and diagram labelling
IELTS Reading β€” skimming, scanning and the time control needed to finish all 40 questions
Writing Task 1 (Academic) β€” describing graphs, charts, processes and maps with the right language
Writing Task 1 (General) β€” formal, semi-formal and informal letters that hit the mark scheme
Writing Task 2 β€” essay structures that satisfy Task Response and Coherence & Cohesion
Speaking Parts 1–3 β€” fluency, lexical range and the confidence to extend an answer naturally
Grammatical range and accuracy β€” the criterion that quietly caps most students at Band 6
Exam-day strategy β€” pacing, transferring answers, and recovering when a section goes badly

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Does ICSA register me for the actual IELTS exam?
No β€” ICSA prepares you for the exam; the test itself is booked through an official IELTS test centre (British Council or IDP). We will walk you through the registration process, help you choose a realistic test date, and make sure you are ready before you book.
Do you teach IELTS Academic or General Training?
Both. Listening and Speaking are identical in the two versions, so those lessons are shared. Reading and Writing differ, and you are taught the version that matches your goal β€” Academic for university and professional registration, General Training for migration and work.
What band score can I realistically expect after this course?
It depends on where you start. Students who begin around Band 5.5–6 and attend consistently typically reach Band 6.5–7.5. We assess your level in the first week and set a target that is honest rather than flattering β€” and tell you plainly if your target date is too soon.
How is IELTS scored, and what does each band mean?
Each of the four papers is scored from 0 to 9, and the overall band is the average, rounded to the nearest half band. Band 6 is competent, Band 7 is good and is the most common university requirement, and Band 8 is very good. Most students need an overall 6.5–7.0 with no individual band below 6.0.
Do you offer an intensive crash course before an upcoming test date?
Yes. If your exam is close we can build an intensive schedule around it, concentrating on your weakest paper and running mock tests under timed conditions. Tell us your test date at the consultation and we will tell you honestly whether it is achievable.
What certificate do I receive from ICSA?
You receive an ICSA Certificate of Completion for the preparation course. Your IELTS band score itself comes from the official test centre on your Test Report Form β€” no training provider can issue that.
